Camelina is an annual plant native to the Mediterranean and Central Asia, cultivated for its seeds that are high in oil. Camelina oil is a golden yellow vegetable oil, rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially omega-6 linoleic acid and omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid.
This oil has emollient and antioxidant properties and It is used in personal care products such as moisturizers, conditioners, and soaps. It is also used in the food industry as an additive and in the production of biofuels.
The method of obtaining camelina oil is through cold pressing the seeds of the plant. The botanical name of camelina is Camelina sativa and its INCI is Camelina sativa seed oil. The CAS number of camelina oil is 8001-40-3.
The main components of camelina oil are linoleic acid (about 35%), alpha-linolenic acid (about 25%), oleic acid (about 18%) and palmitic acid (about 12%). Camelina oil also contains phytosterols and tocopherols, which give it antioxidant properties.
