Green anise essential oil is obtained from the seeds of the Pimpinella anisum plant, also known as sweet anise or common anise. This plant is native to the eastern Mediterranean and has been cultivated around the world for its aromatic seeds and essential oils.
To obtain green anise essential oil, steam distillation methods are used from the crushed seeds. The resulting oil is a colorless or pale yellow liquid with an intense anise aroma.
The properties of green anise essential oil include antispasmodic, carminative, expectorant, stimulant and diuretic properties. It is commonly used in the food industry as a flavoring, especially in liquors, soft drinks, bakery and candy.
It is also used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry in products such as creams, lotions, soaps, ointments and cough drops. Additionally, green anise essential oil has historically been used to relieve digestive problems, coughs, colds, flu, and menstrual disorders.
It is important to note that green anise essential oil is very concentrated and should be used with caution. It is recommended to dilute it before topical use or ingestion. In addition, its use is not recommended during pregnancy or in cases of allergy to plants of the Apiaceae family.
