Lanette wax is a type of synthetic wax that is widely used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. It was developed by chemists at the German company Henkel in the 1940s as an alternative to natural waxes, such as beeswax.
Lanette wax is obtained through the hydrogenation of vegetable oils, such as soy and coconut. This process converts unsaturated fatty acids into saturated fatty acids, resulting in a solid, white wax.
The properties of lanette wax include its emulsifying ability, meaning it can mix well with oils and water to create creams and lotions. It also helps to increase the viscosity of products, making them thicker and easier to apply.
The applications and uses of lanette wax are varied, as it is used in many cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. For example, it is found in creams, lotions, ointments, ointments, shampoos and hair care conditioners, among others.
The botanical name of lanette wax is Cetearyl alcohol, and its INCI is Cetearyl Alcohol. Its CAS number is 67762-27-0.
The main components of lanette wax are stearic acid and cetyl alcohol. Stearic acid is a saturated fatty acid found naturally in many vegetable oils, while cetyl alcohol is obtained from animal or vegetable fats.
